Outrun P5: Futaba Extras
Added 2020-06-14 01:21:42 +0000 UTCIf you're giving a character a brand new outfit, and really want it to impress, you need to put a little extra work in. So, before even starting her illustration, I drew up some concept art for Futaba (and will be doing so for everyone in this series.)
The original plan was for her to be wearing a bomber jacket, but, while it would look great, I decided it wasn't quite retro enough with her other gear. I formed the idea of giving her overalls instead, to keep that junker aesthetic I was reaching for.
You can also see that I wanted to put a Sega-esque parody logo on her shirt, but in the end I decided against it... legal stuff y'know, best to not risk it.
It's tough to balance the new with the familiar, especially when you're trying to match the fashion of a specific decade, but I like to think I did pretty well!
I hope this kind of behind the scenes look interests you all! And I'd love to know what you think of the design I chose as well as those that didn't make the cut.
