EXTENDED | Firearms Expert Reacts to Killzone Franchise Guns | EXP

This week on EXP - the Killzone franchise!

For the fans - it's time to take a look at an often requested franchise: Killzone!

Yep, we're heading back down the PlayStation memory lane once again to look at the guns from the classic shooter franchise, Killzone, specifically the original trilogy on the PS2 and PS3, and Killzone Shadow Fall on the PS4.

As always, as an Extended Episodes or VIP Patron, you get an extra long episode featuring exclusive breakdowns of the VC1 Flamethrower from Killzone 2, the M6 Punt from Killzone Shadow Fall, and the StA-X6 Jetpack Exo Skeleton from Killzone 3, as well as getting the whole lot ad-free and earlier than the main feed. Lovely.

Jonathan Ferguson, an expert in firearms history, and the Keeper of Firearms & Artillery at the Royal Armouries Museum in the UK, breaks down the guns of the Killzone franchise, including the default M82 assault rifle, the iconic Helghast weapon, the StA-52, as well as mix of firearms from across Killzone, Killzone 2, Killzone 3, and Killzone: Shadow Fall!

On the cover system, Crysis 2 (and maybe the others? I can't remember) had a cover system that was basically automatic leaning. If you were facing into the cover you'd get a little indicator on the screen for which way you'd lean if you were to ADS from that position. It was something that I thought worked extremely well - it always felt super smooth and intuitive to me - and I'm a bit surprised I haven't seen it copied in many other modern FPS games. I know 'leaning' has become the new convention for handling cover in first-person - but that inevitably leads to people abusing it to make their head into a metronome. Siege gets a pass on the leaning because holding obscene angles is such a huge part of the game.

Totally different end of the calibre spectrum, but the Bleiker Challenger actions in .22LR have the bolt handle halfway down the bolt. It makes for a wonderfully slick reload action, but it does require some very exact tolerances and low drag surface treatments on the bolt and receiver to work

Feel as though the M82, especially the Killzone 2 and 3 versions have some inspirations from the Z-M LR300, especially with the handguard and what I assume heatshield on top design

The weird sniper aiming reminds me of the aiming deadzone option you could turn on in Arma

Ben Hodges

Can we get a redux of the Halo franchise?

Brian Su

that first rifle looks like the Springfield Armory SPIW

59:45 would Johnathan be thinking of the first Marvel Avengers movie? In the first fight with Loki, when the quinjet shows up, a rotary gun drops from the nose and extends its barrels.

Am I the only one getting distracted by the shotgun in KZ2 ejecting as it's fired, before it's getting pumped? The episode however top notch as always
