EXTENDED | Firearms Expert Reacts to Death Stranding Guns | EXP

Those grenades are made of WHAT? We're reconnecting America as wee break down the weapons of Death Stranding.

Those grenades are made of WHAT?

It's time to reconnect America through the magic of deliveries and energy drinks as we check out the weapons of Death Stranding.

Don't forget, as an Extended Episode patron you get an extra long episode with a bunch of extra content, a week earlier than the main feed, and it's ad-free.

Jonathan Ferguson, an expert in firearms history and the Keeper of Firearms & Artillery at the Royal Armouries Museum in the UK, slowly loses his mind while breaking down the weapons of Death Stranding, including its array of non-lethal firearms, Mads Mikkelsen’s fever dream of an assault rifle, and a whole arsenal of period weaponry from WW1, WW2, and the Vietnam War, because, well, why not?

A big theme in the Metal Gear Solid games (Kojima's former series) was making the player reflect the ethics surrounding killing people in the game. It was in line with the overall anti-war message the series had. Those games featured, more and more as they came out, non (or less than) lethal weapons and equipment to dispatch enemies. In 5, Kojima's last MGS, there were rubber round guns, tranquilizer rounds, sleeping gas, forced extraction (Fulton's) and taser adjacent options. In context the premise and lore of this game acts as a sort of extended conceit to continue this trend. Now not only is there a question of ethics in taking a life but also there are very real consequences to doing so. What was super cool to hear was JF dissect that approach and explain the potential unintentional cruelty to some of these weapons.

I think my opinion on these games is the same as Dave's. Certainly not really for me but man I love to see Kojima can still let his very strange mind loose in video games.

IsenWeeps

I prefer games where they use actual guns.

Terry

Only two living organisms left on Earth? What about that grass I can clearly see everywhere?

Twit In A Hat

"WTF is wrong with this man!" Yes, Jonathan, I've been wondering that since I first played Metal Gear Solid 2 back in 2006.

From now on 'Blackhole Bumhole' will officially replace 'Hammer Space' as my way of describing physically impossible spacial capacity!

Andy Murfitt

"Enforced compassion through the medium of nonsense" is a surprisingly apt description for a lot of Kojima projects.
