Regarding the opening of MI1, I misremembered most of that sequence as part of the climax of the film for a very long time. I guess it was so striking/shocking that my brain insisted it had to happen later on? Really threw me for a loop when I realized how jumbled I had the events of the film. That last frame of the elevator kill on Emilio Esteves stuck with me for years.
