EXTENDED | Firearms Expert Reacts to DOOM Franchise Guns | EXP

It's Friday, and that means the latest episode of Expert Reacts on EXP has arrived, and this week we're razing Hell.

It's Friday, and that means the latest episode of Expert Reacts on EXP has arrived, and this week we're razing Hell.

With DOOM: The Dark Ages right around the corner, we thought it would be fun to take a look back across the nearly 30 year history of the DOOM franchise to see how the Doom Slayer's iconic arsenal has developed. This Extended Episode has (we think) the most guns we've ever shown Jonathan in a single episode, with a whopping 28 guns!

Don't forget, as an Extended Episode patron you get an extra long episode with a bunch of extra content, a week earlier than the main feed, and it's ad-free. Lovely stuff.

Jonathan Ferguson, an expert in firearms history and the Keeper of Firearms & Artillery at the Royal Armouries Museum in the UK, breaks down some of the iconic weapons from across the entire DOOM franchise, including the Super Shotgun, the Plasma Gun and, of course, the BFG.

I suspect the lack of reload animations in Doom64 was a technical limitation, since the N64 had less RAM than the minimum required RAM for the original DOS version (4MB vs 8MB).

For the rocket mod that lets you detonate rockets mid-flight maybe the idea was you could shoot at enemies behind cover or around a corner and detonate the rocket once it was perpendicular to the target. Like Doom’s take on what the XM-25 was doing.

It's the BFG Edition that's available on game pass, and it's the expansion bit called 'The Lost Mission' as it's basically like playing a shortened version of the whole game

EXP

Which version of Doom 3 was used for this video?

@47:34. No decent Doom movie? I loved the one with JUDGE Dredd, I mean Karl Urban.

if i were to attempt to justify the super shotgun changing each game, i think it would be like this: in doom 2 and 3, it is technically just a found weapon (i imagine some security officer or smth just brought along an old family heirloom as a cool "hey look at this neat double barrel") in doom 2016, it could either be the same case as the above or hayden remembering the doom slayer's penchant for double barrels and deciding to have one lying around just in case in doom eternal, it is a mythical version either made by the argent d'nur as a backup for doom slayer (should he lose the one in dark ages) or by the demons as a reminder of their worst enemy in doom the dark ages, i think it's his original super shotgun from his time in argent d'nur, and is the true lucifer's bane shotgun

Man, I remember booting up Doom II (at a young enough age that I probably shouldn't have been playing it lol) and entering the idkfa code off the rip to stomp the levels with all the OP guns. Super shotty and plasma rifle were my favorites.

You didn't enjoy Eternal? I (Chris) bloody LOVED it

EXP

Wow, I somehow wasn't considering Doom as series with new installment soon. Just how burnt I was by Eternal so I won't buy Dark Age.
