Status Update

Hello everyone,

I thought I'd do a status update here since I haven't been posting as much.

I've been working a lot over the past month on planning out a detailed outline of volume 4 and thinking through the major plot threads and character development. Volume 4 is meant to complete the first major arc of the story (which in the rewrite, stretches from volume 2-4). It's been a bit of a time consuming process, which is why I haven't managed to finish anything apart from a volume 3 extra chapter. I did start work on both the other volume 3 extra chapter I have planned, as well as managed to complete most of volume 4 chapter 1.

I was honestly hoping to finish v4ch1 over the course of last week. But then god f-ing Putin lost his marbles and invaded another country. As you all know, geopolitics is a major component of Daybreak and I try to keep up to speed on these things. I've largely ignored happenings early this year because it seemed a whole lot of political posturing -- but clearly I was wrong and had to spend some time backfilling details and reading up assessments from the scholars and analysts.

I've also had to rework some of the past chapters of Daybreak... because while I wrote Kaede as a political realist, and from a realpolitik perspective Russia has a lot of just grievances against NATO, I am NOT going to list a war criminal on Kaede's list of "childhood celebrities". I wrote Kaede as mildly pacifist in nature (because I am one myself and I can't explore that side of things with Pascal/Sylv) and if I update her knowledge to today she'd be utterly horrified.
