Hello Patreon

Finally launching a patreon account. I've considered this for some time but kept putting it off. A few fans have finally convinced me to create this.

The main issue I've always had is that -- I mostly write as a hobby, as a way to relax from my day job as an engineer. However, when one starts monetizing hobbies, it often creates an adverse effect. Instead of doing what I love, I'm afraid I'd start doing what's popular instead, because popular gives people that dopamine surge from likes, subscriptions, and pays. Then when people used to that dopamine doesn't receive more of it, they start feeling stress...

I've learned back in the old Daybreak version that just because many readers want me to give something more prominent (like magibabble or firearms), it doesn't mean I should cram it into a story that has its focus elsewhere. My vision for Daybreak is to explore the nuances of the world, the topics that are often buried in favor of black-vs-white, good-vs-evil narratives in pop culture portrayal. Kaede is a caught in between two genders, two cultural identities, two entire worlds, precisely because it helps to give her more viewpoints.

Still, I think I've become  much stronger than when I first wrote Daybreak, with more determination on what I'm trying to accomplish. So time to give this a shot~!

By the same token, because I take pride and love what I write, I'd prefer not to hide important content behind a paywall. I've always considered this project my own way to contribute to the world. Patreon content will be largely limited to early access, supplementary materials, and author's thoughts. I find it abhorrent when WN authors hold their own work ransom for money so I certainly don't want to do the same thing.

Nevertheless, if you have suggestions on how to make this Patreon a more worthwhile place, feel free to make them.

Best regards,

~Aorii
