What You Didn't Know About Gypsy Rose

Jeffie joins me to break down The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose!

Comments

Hey Cam, around 9:30, you mention that she wouldn’t have gotten parole if she didn’t behave in prison, kinda implying (sorry if i’m misunderstanding!) that it means she probably isn’t a narcissist etc; I just wanna point out that being granted parole is not a strong indicator of a person’s character. Very bad people (not talking about Gypsy) have “behaved” in prison to get parole, only to go out and cause more harm. All i’m saying is her getting parole doesn’t mean she’s incapable of being a narcissist, or a sociopath. Sorry if I’m being pedantic but that’s a topic close to my heart, and I personally doubt Gypsy specifically is clinically any of those things anyway, but i just wanted to voice that :) My opinion on her is that she is a very hurt person, and whatever her mental state is today shouldn’t be something she wears as a label forever publicly bc she now has real opportunity to heal, and work through the damage her mother did. If she’s got narcissistic tendencies rn, i think there’s a big chance those are learned behaviors for survival and she can learn new behaviors. For Nick, I think he should have at least the opportunity to be reviewed by a court and moved to a high security mental health facility, so he can get real treatment. ❤️ love this episode, it’s a nice switch up and hearing how much y’all empathize with her is refreshing. A lot of discussion about this is really… sterile, cold? professionals put their emotions out of it a lot of the time so it’s nice to hear a more heartfelt perspective

I worked in a children’s hospital and reports do need proof, they can report they are suspicious but nothing can be done without any proof. Also worth mentioning that research shows BIPOC children get under diagnosed, later diagnosed and less pain meds for serious illnesses. Given that context parents are likely to be stronger advocates for their child and more likely to get reported for things like MBP, so I would hope they need proof…
