If it helps, All you had to do was stay was written almost a year and two months before Style so I think it’s one time Dianna broke up with her when she thought maybe it was for good that time vs the last time they got back together (even after Clean was written) OR her looking back on that last time when she realized that maybe they were never going to be *truly* over.

2021-06-17 05:38:30 +0000 UTCI had a thought about y’all saying maybe Style is about Taylor ending the relationship. But then how does “All You Had to Do Was Stay” about? Could they be about the one and the same moment? What if Taylor let Dianna go, but was desperately wishing that Dianna said “No, I’m not going anywhere.” Isn’t that the story T says about Joe? That she tried to break up with him, because she knew the media was going to blow the whole thing up, and he said “No, I’m not letting you break up with me.”
