2023-05-20 02:30:10 +0000 UTCLet me preface this by saying I have not seen this trilogy of films; but I have never understood the point of adaptations like this. Well partially anyway, in America there's a stigma against animation as a medium for story telling and there are those that hold the view that having an entry in live action "legitimizes" it somehow. I'm not inherently opposed to live action adaptations of properties based on comics and cartoons, I've been watching live action superhero movies since I was a kid and those have been able to bring characters to life or add something to their legacy ( to various degrees of success of course) But for projects like the live action Last Airbender film and apparently this trilogy which tries to follow the same plot beat for beat, while trying to cram it all into a much shorter run time when the original version is right there offering the same but better, it's always been baffling to me. It makes me wonder how the new live action Last Airbender and One Piece will fare. Like instead of trying and ( most of the time ) failing to recreate something from another medium exactly as it was why not use the franchise as a basis to create a new story but one that plays to the strengths of the medium that's telling the new story.
