SPACE DATE 5 IS COMPLETE!

I wanted to take a moment to share some thoughts about the journey of making Space Date 5. These last six months have been intense, honestly some of the hardest I’ve ever worked on a project! But also very rewarding.

When I started, I was stepping into a lot of new territory. After four previous Space Dates done all in 2D, this time I wanted to push the visuals further with 3D backgrounds, even though I had zero experience with Blender. It was intimidating to learn a completely new tool while trying to keep everything moving forward. I spent hours, sometimes days, wrestling with tiny details like modelling a sink or designing props, fumbling through tutorials, and slowly figuring out how to make my vision fit the story.

At the same time, I was redesigning characters, tightening storyboards, and trying to communicate clearly with animators because we had to hand off so much work - animating is not my favorite part! Balancing all these moving pieces, managing timing and style, and making sure everything felt cohesive was a challenge.

There were so many moments of frustration: long renders failing, compositing issues, and learning how to blend 2D animation into a 3D space in a way that felt natural. But there were just as many breakthroughs - like seeing the first test animations come back, locking in the perfect song with the help of friends, and finally watching all the pieces come together into something that feels really special.

I’m incredibly proud of how Space Date 5 evolved. It’s a project that forced me to grow as an artist and filmmaker, and that growth is deeply fulfilling. Most importantly, I want to say thank you! To all of you supporting me here and cheering on this work.
