Just wanna say, the pronunciation of 'Tsuruta' is pretty much 'Su-roo-ta' except with a t sound before the S

2025-07-25 20:24:51 +0000 UTCI'll add a few notes as I watch - Misawa was unmasked almost immediately before this. He unmasked May 14th and this match was June 8th. It was in fact the exact same tour (unmasked on day 1, Jumbo match on Day 19) - Jumbo and Triple H got their knees from the same influence iirc. That being Harley Race. Triple H Idolized Harley, and Harley did a lot of work during the 70s in All Japan where Jumbo could see it and experience it first hand. - Jumbo was definitely the mean old bastard here, trying to put the young guys in their place, prove that it was still his time and not theirs. It's a role he'd play to perfection for the next few years. While there's another great six man in between (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kB__ZH1tbUs&ab_channel=KingsAARK) the next match on the agenda would most likely be the Jumbo/Misawa rematch from September. Some people argue it's a better match than their first one. Agree or disagree it's another fantastic match in their series and a must watch. 2025-07-25 07:55:17 +0000 UTCYeah Misawas merch was selling so well, and the people in line outside the venue had already started chanting for Misawa before coming in. The writers at the magazine Pro Wrestling Weekly also had Babas ear at this point and said to him that's the best decision, though he didn't make that decision until the day of. Tsuruta tried to convince him that it was wrong, or that it should be a DQ finish instead (AJPW's whole thing was dragging out the resolution for years if not decades so this was very much going against the grain). Not that Jumbo had any ill will vs Misawa they actually ended up being very close friends, he just thought it was too early. It'd end up being the correct decision however. Probably the most important spur of the moment decisions in wrestling history. Misawa was made by winning this match.

2025-07-24 22:56:52 +0000 UTCApparently, Tsuruta was supposed to win that night, but Giant Baba, AJPW's founder and booker, decided, just a couple of hours before the match, that Misawa would win. This match is incredible, it is the match that turned Misawa into THE top guy in AJPW, and I believe I'm not exaggerating when I say that it changed the history of pro-wrestling.
