FAR AND AWAY (1992) Full Length REACTION!

Comments

Great reaction, Madison. I too am a fan of Irish music, particularly the whistle tunes like the ones playing near the beginning of the film. I saw this film when it came out in 1992, but didn't remember just how much I enjoyed it. Probably more so on second viewing after 30 years. Some casting notes: Thomas Gibson (Stephen, the arrogant rival) co-starred in the 90s sitcom Dharma and Greg, where he was a much more likable character. Robert Prosky and Barbara Babcock (the Christies, Shannon's parents) both played recurring roles on the 80s police drama Hill Street Blues. And true to form, Ron Howard makes it a family affair with brother Clint Howard playing the manager of the chicken factory that kept docking Shannon's pay when she insulted him. And their father Rance Howard played the horse dealer who sold Joseph the old broken down horse, and then the "green-broke" horse afterwards. Both Ron and Clint were familiar as child actors in the 60s, Ron as Opie on The Andy Griffith Show, and Clint co-starring with a bear on Gentle Ben.

The Irish is not easy, even though like almost every country, there's a dozen different accents...and apparently Tom didn't land on any of them. I just read an article from an Irish publication that listed Brad Pitt as one of the best (Snatch) and one of the worst (The Devil's Own) Irish accents in film. I guess he improved during those 4 years in between.

I couldn't get passed Tom's unconvincing Irish accent,I like Nicole she's a woman Tom can look up to..
