You really need to watch 2049

Benjamin Gerrald

Some people see the unicorn at the end as evidence that Deckard is a replicant (since it recalls his dream). I consider its meaning to be more symbolic; it represents Deckard's realization that, although replicants are not human, they have the same capacity for suffering and therefore deserve rights comparable to those of humans. (This attitude is very different from the way he acts midway through the film, when he treats Rachel like an object and sexually assaults her in order to take his mind off his guilt after shooting Zorra in the back.) Deckard isn't a hero, he's just good at his job. But Roy's mercy changes his perspective, ironically allowing Deckard to pass the Voight-Kampf empathy test in real-life w.r.t. replicants. Great reaction, and I really enjoyed your extended thoughts at the end.
