The ending also made me think of Return of the King with Ethan passing out, then waking up in bed and all his friends are there to celebrate the victory with him. Could be completely unintentional, but the way it was shot felt like an homage to me.

I was sure the movie would resonate much more with you after seeing the previous 5 movies (especially Rouge Nation.) Now that your caught up, I'm equally excited for you to see Dead Reckoning and to hear your thoughts.

2023-09-02 22:20:29 +0000 UTCThis was pretty epic. It's crazy how the scale of these movies seemed to keep going up and up with each successive entry. I like the intercutting between the three mini-groups at the end, sort of reminiscent of Return of the Jedi. And it probably doesn't need to be said--but Tom Cruise was actually doing all the helicopter flying that Ethan was during the final action scene. As far as Dead Reckoning, well, I guess we'll see what you think of it when it's out on digital. I have some spoiler thoughts that I'll share after your reaction. In the meantime, probably best not to watch any video essays about Mission Impossible on Youtube, as at least one of them talks explicitly about D.R., even though the title doesn't necessarily make that obvious.
