MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - GHOST PROTOCOL (2011) Full Length REACTION!

Comments

Not to worry, I saw all the subtitles! The footage I use for the reaction is not the same footage I see during the reaction. Unfortunately, it seems the site I download from never includes the subtitles in any movie :(

When I first saw Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol in theaters, I thought it was simply a middle-of-the-road film. But, now having watched it several more times over the years my opinion has changed. It really is a well-constructed and tension filled movie, one I appreciate much more now. While MI 5 & 6 are my top two favorites, Ghost Protocol is a worthy addition to the series.

I'm so glad you enjoyed this. I alternate between 4, 5 and 6 as my favorite MI movie, depending on my mood. This was Brad Bird’s first live-action film. He’s most known for directing animation (Iron Giant, both Incredibles movies), so it was kind of risky for Tom Cruise to hire him, but it paid off. The more light-hearted tone really plays into Bird’s strengths. A couple other thoughts: The ending scene has a nice touch where Michael Giacchino brought back the “romance/Julia” theme heard throughout MI3. Also, I really like how increasingly “put upon” Ethan has become as the series progresses, like he doesn’t actually want to do this shit. It borders on curmudgeonly, and suits the character well. It reminds me a bit of how Harrison Ford plays Indy. One concern: For whatever reason it looked like for the majority of the times when foreign languages were being spoken, you weren't seeing English subtitles. (Such as when Ethan/Benji first had to infiltrate the Kremlin and they were talking to the security guy.) Hopefully you were actually seeing the subtitles on your end, or else those scenes were probably more cryptic than they were intended. Some non-spoiler thoughts on the upcoming ROGUE NATION: It’s probably the closest in terms of style to FALLOUT, since Christopher McQuarrie wrote and directed both MI5 and MI6. MI5 also has very clever usage of music. I think I mentioned on YouTube that there is a whole scene where the diegetic music acts as the film score. Also, one particular character gets a recurring musical motif; sometimes it’s obvious, and sometimes it’s really subtle. I think it’s extra noteworthy because the MI movies aren’t known for doing the John Williams thing where every character gets their own theme.
