I'm with you, Mad. Just ugly people doing ugly things. If not a character, I at least need a cause to root for. By the time the whole "aiding the villagers" notion arises it seems like a secondary plot line, so I don't feel very invested in it. The time period is interesting for a "Western".. just before WW1... the automobile, olive drab Cavalry uniforms, semi-automatic pistols, etc.. the end of a film genre reflected in the time setting of the film. First time watching- not something I'd watch again.
