Dean Martin & Rick Nelson were both singers. Would have been a waste for not working in the songs into the movie. Love their performance of "My Rifle, My Pony, an Me."

The 1981 movie, “Outland” starring Sean Connery touches upon these same themes. A man standing alone, staying in the situation when he could / should have gone, his own measure of self-worth on the line, etc. It has been described as “High Noon in space”. I would heartily suggest you check that one out.
