I used to like the Boot Camp scene in Forrest Gump, but I joined the military and it’s not really a question of just doing whatever the drill sergeant says! you have to be able to do it too! Under lots of pressure, which is the hard part!! and a slow person being the most successful Boot Camp recruit by being “simple” it’s kind of an insult to the entire institution. Thanks to the Forrest Gump movie a lot of people’s perception of the Vietnam war is... our troops walked into an ambush! and were riddled by bullets and mortar fire had to duck out and retreat and call in an airstrike. Then, a retarded man picked up all the injured people and ran away with them to safety... and that’s everybody’s basic perception of the Vietnam war now. I say- THATS NOT GOOD ENOUGH! is it supposed to be honoring our veterans? Not at all

Everybody assumes that because it happens in Alabama that the events could actually take place. The whole country thinks that everyone from Alabama is just a bunch of stupid redneck hicks, but that’s just not true. I am from there, it could’ve taken place ANYWHERE (in the country). I had an economics teacher in high school sit on an airplane next to a woman who asked him have you ever been to Greenbo??? He was angry but beyond belief because there’s no such place as Greenbo Alabama! there is a Greensboro but that’s not close enough to run to Tuscaloosa football field And catch the eye of state hero: Paul bear Bryant. Football is kind of the state religion in Alabama even though there’s no pro team so they just worship colleges! Anyway every black character in the movie is like a guardian angel from the drill sergeant to the hundred year old preacher man who married Jenny & Forest. It’s ridiculous- I call it “reverse racism” but trying to be positive... There is a black dude who helps forest learn ping pong and another black caretaker woman who sees forests mother through death and of course Bubba Blue who was almost played by Dave Chapelle- that would be a really weird alternate universe if he had!!!
