Jaws is an absolute classic. Amazingly, Spielberg followed it up with another classic just two years later (Close Encounters of the Third Kind). His very first feature-length movie, the 1971 made for TV drama Duel, is also worth a watch. Going back even farther, the 22 year-old Spielberg directed a segment of the pilot movie for the horror anthology series Night Gallery in 1969. That film is also worth a watch; Spielberg's segment was decent but a different segment featuring Roddy McDowall gave me nightmares as a kid.
