This is going to be long but hopefully helpful. No spoilers this is just what happened already up to this episode. Sol went to the past and changed the future. We established this with the picture. If we follow rules of time travel that would cause a branch in the time lines. There would be the “sacred timeline” where everything exists as it was. Sun Jae would still be dead and she would be living her life. Then a new branch of the timeline would form. That branch would be where her life started after she left the past where a new version of her would exist with the new memories. This is evident by how much her Best Friend changed. In the original time line she was single and working. In that time she never fell for Sol’s brother. But when she went back she stopped hanging out with her friend therefore leaving her to encounter her brother more and them falling for each other. Now this show does not have a multiverse concept. So the branched timeline doesn’t exist. You have to remember what she has changed. Trip Back 1 Before her first trip she only remembered she was in a car accident that left her paralyzed. She was so upset and devisstated she yelled at the person who saved her and she said he should have let her die. We learned that person was Sun Jae. That he liked for a long time but she never knew about it because she was in love with the other guy. She never knew who he was that is why she doesn’t realize when she becomes a fan. The accident was traumatic and her family didn’t tell her the truth. When she first went back to the past she started remembering things. So when she was kidnapped at the reservoir she began to remember and saved herself. That when she got thrown off the bridge and Sun Jae saved her. She changed her own fate. Then they started getting close. Then the picture is made. She goes back with legs in tact but he still dies. Trip back 2 She gets kidnapped again by the same guy outside her apartment this time and he takes her back to the reservoir. Sun Jae knows something up and starts figuring some things out. He then figures out where and goes there and saves her again. But future Sol leaves her body right at this moment and past Sol is scared and confused. She doesn’t press charges because she can’t remember and is just scared. That why past Sol was so mean to him and those are the memories she is getting back as future Sol. Now: remember there are no branching timelines in this story. When Sol changed the future she was her future self with all her memories of the original timeline. When she left her body she went straight back to the future at that exact moment on the kdrama set. Leaving her past self. You have to remember when her past self came to she didn’t remember anything future Sol did and goes on living her life. As we saw on this previous return where past sol starts dating the other guy. While in the past future Sol begins to remember the things past Sol did and said. Like all the ooey gooey stuff to the boyfriend and the birthday song. Past Sol repressed the past memories of her kidnappings. The second kidnapping still happened and still part of her past. Her future self is now settling into the new timeline she created with all the changes. She can’t specifically remember things but as she settles and sees different things she begins to remember and she catches up with the new timeline. But future sol can also remember the original timeline. She’s the only one… her grammas is being sus and seems to remember some stuff but idk. Now she is remembering a third kidnapping where the bad guy actually gets caught and goes to jail. He got let out and took revenge on Sun Jae because Sun Jae was the one that caught him. I will say you are going to have to pay attention to the background noise and the random news reports playing to keep up. I hope this clears everything up for what happened up to now.

2024-08-14 20:43:37 +0000 UTCI think more than anything The memory thing is written the way it is to drive the story to where they want to go so you’re gonna have to get through the rest of the episodes to understand why they wrote it the way they did. You might be confused a little bit for the next episode or two because of that but once you get to the end, it’s all gonna be tied together and make more sense. I think the writers took more of a creative route to write this story and you have to get to the end to really see that.

2024-08-14 04:49:33 +0000 UTCi think the specifics with her future telling consequence, is that she can't say things out loud that will FOR SURE happen. so that scene where she was singing, wasn't really breaking the rules as the song already existed and she didn't specifically say what about the future she will change. She just said "the future" lol

But bruh......he already wrote the song so she's not telling him anything that happens in the future. She's just singing a song he already wrote. Also, she can tell him she came from the future and about her intentions to change the future. She did that before in an earlier episode and he just looked at her like she was crazy lol. She just can't tell him about anything that hasn't happened yet. So there is absolutely nothing wrong with the way the writers are letting Sun Jae figure this out. He's just putting together things she's saying now with things she already said to him in the past....still following the rules of not telling him anything specific about what happens in the future.

And Terry in addition to this (great job explaining btw especially if this isn't your first language!), I sort of made a similar comment for the previous episode when Terry brought up his issue with her remembering only certain things. I also mentioned that she often didn't remember details surrounding events that were particularly traumatic for her such as the 1st and 2nd kidnappings. Maybe that's what you're referring to when you mentioned selective memory? IDK. For me personally, I think I would get bored if every movie/series handled time travel the same exact way with the same rules. I see what you mean when you say they are playing around with the rules but is that really a bad thing if you can make sense out of it? I mean if you really think about it, the whole concept of a watch that can make you time travel all of a sudden is ridiculous to begin with. Don't get me wrong, I like a good story line too, but these little details about why she can remember certain things and not others can easily be justified since her mind is jumping back and forth in time. If time travel were really possible, we can only imagine how that would affect our minds the same way we can only imagine how this random watch became a freaking time machine all of sudden LOL! This is a debate my friend and I have all of the time about which plots we should over analyze and which ones we should be a little less analytical about. As always.....just my opinion.

The reason she cannot remember is because if you recall personality wise she is two different people. Her future self who is in love with Sun Jae and was a fan and her past self who didn’t know him and had a crush on the other dude. When she traveled to the past if you remember her older past self was confused thinking she was possessed because people would say she did things and said things but she did not remember those because it was her future self. Back to the watch thing. The reason why she does not remember is because when she left after the almost kidnapping last episode she went to the present time but her past self came back and life went on … it’s like leaving your body and your past self is asleep and when you leave your body you comeback to 2023 .. the in between times life went on with her not being aware because she came back with a big jump in the timeline with things changed. So she wouldn’t have memories of things like the watch , or her bff marrying her brother etc because she didn’t live those memories.. her past self lived them , she just came back in the middle of the future. The flashbacks make sense in a way that her past and future self are sorta blending and merging together with certain memories because it’s present time …. I don’t think it is far fetched to think the watch was returned to her after they closed the investigation because it was among her other stuff like her backpack which was on the floor.. she didn’t know she had it because it was her past self that lived that memory and kept her watch . Her past self even said she is scared and traumatised when she sees Sun Jae , even asked him to stay away - this isn’t a spoiler it showed as a flash back ( something her current future self would never say given how in love she is with him)

What comes to my mind is that maybe the rule is to not say facts that happens only in the future. About she going back to future... maybe it is very subjective, no? like, she will not disappear from the present, you know what I mean...? IDK, it might not be the case.
