He needs to say that he's hurt or sad about what they are doing to him, so they don't just walk all over him. She is frustrated at how her brother uses him all the time and then locks him back up by using the "he's a monster" line. And because the monster guy says nothing, all the other people just follow her brother's inhumane orders. That's why she only tries to be friendly with the gangster guy. He is strong and a bad guy but is fair. Hope this helps
