They’re not powering them down. This was before Season 1 even happened so none of them are at the level they were at in that season.

2023-07-19 15:09:53 +0000 UTCi def don't blame you for not getting some of the details in the movie and feeling like they leveled down some of the characters because if you don't remember small details from season 1 it can get confusing during the movie. for example this movie is a prequel to season 1 so it's telling the story of 1 year before season 1 takes place so that's why characters like toge and maki seem weaker. another thing is that okkotsu is a lot stronger than the rest of his classmates and in season one gojo and toudou mentions okkotsu in high praise (especially gojo because he talks about how okkotsu will eventually become as powerful as himself). also, when you said gojo couldn't do anything when geto left with his squad, that was because geto left the curses to go after the students, meaning gojo would have to save his students before being able to go after geto (and it would be too late by then anyways). there were other small things that i think you missed but again it makes sense because i also missed many things and didn't realize until i rewatched season 1 again after watching the movie. i also watch it in japanese because sometimes there are small things that don't translate well into english (but that can't be help since obviously everyone can't understand the original language). although i did get frustrated with the misunderstandings you had and i wished i was able to explain everything better, i still enjoyed your reaction and look forward to your season 2 reactions as well (which btw takes place when gojo and geto are still in high school)

Itdaori was going to another school at this time, so that's why he's not in this movie. Also Yuta's name was only mention in the first season in the anime, he's a second year I think along with Maki and Panda.

It takes place before the first season so the characters are only 1st years and aren’t as powerful as they were in season 1. This movie was just an introduction to Yuta’s character which was only briefly mentioned in the first season and will have a larger part later in the series 😊
