Sure, 10% of it is shitting on the clip that came out from the upcoming box office disappointment "Borderlands" from Lionsgate, Eli Roth, the guy whose name I forgot who worked on Deadpool, and an uncredited script doctor who had to write the words "Claptrap continues to shit bullets."
It seemed like a perfect opportunity to talk about bad action without having to risk a copyright claim on a movie that already came out. It was just so bad and also connected to Randy. Like fucking catnip.
I'm happy to take a break from boomshoots to look at this world-renowned early 2000s phenomenon. This game stars Sam Lake's face being easy fodder for jokes and awkward pauses and comic panels that I had way too much fun filling with whatever. An absolutely stacked video for Cancer Mouse, who plays four different roles all at once.
So yeah classic game right here now I'm going back to my third Selaco playthrough. I just got to Starlight again. I didn't like that there wasn't an automatic shotgun in Selaco and then I beat the Tychus Challenge and was like OH WAIT HOLY SHIT

2024-07-03 10:36:33 +0000 UTCBy the way Civvie - just before you descend the stairs to fight the 'Steel Gut' Whinin' Vinnie for the first time, there's a secret balcony you can roll dodge on to from the rooftop. Max pretty much glides long distances in the air off ledges. You take a bit of fall damage, but the balcony leads you to the game's Dopefish room - and lots and lots of guns. Well worth it. 😁 If there's one location in the game to include in the video that tells the audience without a doubt that 'Yep - this guy is aware of the roll move' - the Dopefish room is it.

2024-07-02 20:40:53 +0000 UTCYou almost had me yelling at the screen. :D I don't re-play Max Payne, I re-roll it. The thing is; as long as the roll animation plays, you're invincible to bullets. If you pause the game at the right moment, you can see them go straight through Max. So to enter those rooms through the pesky doors without dying - roll through them! Roll through the whole thing. Ok, I'm done. Still loved the video of course! :)

2024-07-02 18:53:52 +0000 UTCYou’re not wrong - this was Remedy’s first rodeo after all, and at a time when things weren’t all locked down yet to boot. 👍 My first thought of the move when starting out with the game was ’Why would I ever use this as I’ve got the bullet time version too?’ Until I actually tried it in combat. After that it was ’Oh… OH!’ the rest of the way. It’s like adding the shotgun to Classic Doom. Both of them.

What made me quit though was the second nightmare sequence with that fucking awful, terrible platforming. I was trying to do it with the stiff PS2 controls and on small CRT. I could barely tell where I needed to jump half the time.

Good times. But for the love of Pete - no sideways dodge roll? At ALL? It was your most effective means of not dying in this game. So much so that they had to nerf it in the sequel. The main thing that bothered me about the game’s (then) stunning visual presentation was that the dudes used their friends’ and family members’ likenesses for the in-game character models: every single bad guy in New York is a clean-shaven baby-face. Facts. 😁 Oh, and I never realized back then that Poets of the Fall’s vocalist apparently doubled as Vlad in the original. Cool beans. 🤘
