Added 2024-06-11 12:44:18 +0000 UTCDespite what this video says, I'm actually on my third playthrough of Selaco, started as this one's production was winding down. I have an unhealthy amount of love for this game. I wholeheartedly shill it for reasons I hope I've explained well enough in this video. I couldn't possibly ignore it. When I first got a review code, I played it well into the night, marveling at just how ridiculously cool it was. And that was before another update that changed the balance of the game, and then one more update that changed the balance of the game, because people were complaining that it was too hard. Maybe my Stockholm syndrome was kicking in again but I loved almost every second that I was getting brutally murdered in that first playthrough I did.
Here's hoping I don't catch a cease and desist from B&M.

2024-06-13 00:41:14 +0000 UTCIt does get a bit daunting when a lot of the games have similar objectives so I like to highlight unique things about a game. This video was scripted the way it is because I knew I'd need a spoiler section and I wanted to talk about the game's systems and how they work together. Sometimes a game will lend itself to a linear script because certain things will happen that are great to set up and then pay off for the audience. Like if we were talking about the Turbo Overkill video, showing off everything as the game progresses helps people understand my deep hatred of Maw and his bullshit. For every video, I capture all the gameplay I do, take notes during play, import all the footage, and then mark the clips I want in Premiere while writing the script. This makes editing go a lot faster. It also helps if you've got a gag or a joke you want to lead up to, like in the Descent video with the Guide Bot bits where I, entirely during the scripting process, decided to write in a thing about it constantly dying. This also was a problem because I had to go back and kill the boss again and capture footage in order to make the final bit where I rename him work since I didn't do that in the original playthrough. If you've got something that you want to talk about in the video that really interests you, try writing a script that will lead the audience to that point.

2024-06-12 20:03:31 +0000 UTCWhile I'm not surprised that people were complaining about the difficulty, I too was enjoying having my shit pushed in near constantly through my initial run. The small sliver of regening health WAS pretty much my health bar during many fights. To the point that I would joke every time I would top up my health and armor that I couldn't wait to lose it all in the opening 2 seconds of the next firefight lol. I had thought a few times while playing that there was probably folks out there having a bad time, screeching into the chaotic void that is the Steam forums but like Ravenholm, I don't go there anymore. Thanks for an awesome video on a fucking fantastic game Civvie.

I imagine you get your notes in some linear fashion, but you have, what I perceive as, a very non-linear way of presenting your thoughts. They're entirely coherent. Edit: For transparency, I want to step into the world of game reviews with a humorous edge to them, but I find I write and would end up presenting my content in a way that would be entirely too linear. Especially for a game that is arcady and samey with each level having a similar, if not identical goal. Keeping something like that fresh seems difficult when you try to cover everything that is all but the same looking, ie: a sidescroller.

But the Early Access version I played was one of the first angrily disappointed refunds I had in a long time, to the degree that I wonder if Steam accidentally installed some broken alpha-version. I haven't bounced so hard off a game everybody praises since Breath of the Wild.

2024-06-11 13:36:58 +0000 UTCWith the combo of the enemy behavior, more tactical combat loop, and the order weapons are acquired and upgraded, Selaco sells the idea that the protagonist is an experienced gunfighter more than any game I’ve played in a very long time. I believed that Dawn had seen some shit as soon the game started her with a rifle, and I as the player felt better prepared for the challenge as a result. Most people aren’t going to care about that, but it really brought me into the story the game is trying to tell. Fighting with a pistol sucks. Ask me how I know.
