PROFESSIONAL CEREAL NIGHTMARE
Added 2024-03-30 13:50:57 +0000 UTCA palate cleanser if I've ever had one, Chex Quest, a title requested with mind-boggling frequency that I will never truly understand, is a pleasant trip to a simpler time when companies cared about the games they released.
Cereal companies. Cereal companies cared about the games they released.
This isn't Sneak King or Pepsi Man or some trashy thing cooked up by a marketing executive. This is a surprisingly well made thing cooked up by a marketing executive, who 100% did a line of coke and said "LET'S MAKE DOOM, BUT WITH CEREAL CHARACTERS" and someone in the room was like "but we don't have any characters because cereal is food, and food is not characters, and three more lines of coke later they were pitching the film Foodfight and not paying any attention to what the Chex Quest team was doing.
At least that's what I read on Wikipedia.

Just in case you weren't aware, Mr. Jacobi actually went back and gave Chex Quest 1 and 2 some touch-ups when he released part 3, including some layout changes (check out the original Cinema!). The rushed nature of CQ2 really really shows in those original levels.

I think you did this whole, weird, cocaine-infused design affair justice with this one. 👍 I’m also glad that this video will inevitably bring much more well-deserved recognition to the original lead artist - the man behind part 3. You make something good with genuine love and affection, and it should be rewarded - if only with weird cult fame. Funny little additional bit, by the way, that in the game lore the ’Invasion’ happens after 10 years have passed since the ending of part 2 - and Jacobi then goes on and releases part 3 pretty much around 10 years later. Probably unintentional, but if not, it’s almost Romero-esque dedication. Worth a tip o’ the hat, that one.

I'm a bit surprised you didn't touch on the fact that if you boot up the original Chex Quest with the level warp parameter you can get to the rest of the Ultimate Doom levels, but I suppose that fact is available in every post about Chex Quest ever and I'm just purpetuating that fact by posting it here
