You can find the tiny file for the 42-year-old Apple II Castle Wolfenstein games in the same category of abandonware as this 14-year-old Raven title. Back when Raven was keeping id Software IPs alive while id was busy working on RAGE for a daunting 7 years. And now that I think about it RAGE and Wolfenstein 2009 have a lot in common - a somewhat truncated "open world" connected to linear levels, really good guns, high production values...
...Wolf 2009 has more than one boss battle and upon reflection I think is a better game?! What am I saying?

I still remember fondly that moment when I was sneaking and I threw a rock at the first nazi wizard interrupting their cultist stuff and laughing so much god i need to play this game again

You missed out on some really great headshot animations with this mod active, since in the default game headshots give you this really satisfying spray of orange.

I managed to get Prey (2006) and Manhattan Project for a few bucks this way. Anyway, there is a Steam gift of Wolf09 listed for €9999 (with fees more like 10500).

Always found Golden Dawn a bit funny, since there's a full-on neo-Nazi party with the same name in Greece.

2024-01-18 16:51:48 +0000 UTCI really tried to get something out of this game. Raven are pros. They've made a bunch of genuinely classic, well-made games. But I stopped playing after a couple of hours. It isn't bad at all, but it's from THAT time in FPSs where mediocrity and corporatism had gutted creativity from the genre. If BJ wasn't so SLOOOOOOWWWW it would be better. Better than Rage, for sure. But still painful and kinda depressing coming after RTCW.
