There are two types of speech in Korean language. Informal speech is to be used among family and close friends, the ah is part of that. Formal speech you use for everyone else especially if you don't know the age of the other person. It's rude to speak informally to someone older than you unless they've said it's ok. Members of Kpop groups still often speak formally to each other even after being together for years. The rules around this are complicated and all Koreans just seem to know when to use each form. They don't expect foreigners to get this right.
