This was called folk rock Both kids and parents liked it. To adults it seemed to be "safe" music, consequently the Mamma & the Pappas appeared on several 60s TV variety shows. For more folk rock let me recommend James Taylor, Joni Mitchell, and Joan Baez. Thanks for THIS reaction.
