Better Call Saul REACTION // Season 3 Episode 10 // Lantern

Comments

Well we've actually already recorded the first Season 4 episode, we luckily only had to wait for a few hours unlike the huge gap between the seasons when they originally aired. There's a little moment right after Jimmy leaves where Chuck looks like maybe he slightly regrets what he said so I do think he was probably lashing out considering everything that had happened. I honestly think that Chuck really doesn't help and seems to push Jimmy in that direction, him constantly doubting Jimmy and telling him he won't change seems to fuel Jimmy's behaviour a bit more...But like you said Jimmy is responsible for his own actions and has done those sort of things without Chuck's comments pushing him that way. Yea I definitely think Gus realised the pills had spread everywhere but were suddenly all back together in the bottle when the ambulance got there. The very specific shot of the closeup of the bottle and then Gus' face is what makes me think that too. Really excited for Season 4! No it's all good, thank you very much for the comment and support, really appreciate it!

Got a couple of questions for you guys about this heavy finale. You can answer them here or in your S4 intro :) Do you believe Chuck when he said "the truth is you've never mattered all that much to me"? I tend to lean on the side of it was more him lashing out because he'd just been kicked out of his own firm as he finally seems to recover from his condition, when the whole goal of his recovery was to go back to work. Plus he's generally annoyed at Jimmy for the regret show he always puts on after he's done something that hurts them to benefit him (the battery stunt in the courtroom). I think both the intro, and his subsequent relapse show that his relationship with Jimmy does matter to him. Chuck relapsed when he tried (and failed) to confront his emotional state in his journal after severing ties with Jimmy. Do you think Chuck is right when he said "if you're not going to change your behaviour, and you won't..."? Do you think Jimmy can help doing things that hurt others for his own benefit or bending/breaking the rules? He was a con-man in Cicero. But he did then make an honest change and went clean for about a decade in ABQ. But when he's pushed, be it financially or emotionally, he does tend to slip back to his old ways: - He does the skateboard stunt in Uno when he's told to remove McGill from his law practice name - He does the billboard stunt in Hero to get publicity & business - He does the document tampering to get back at Chuck & help Kim - He does the Slip'n'Fall when he's both financially & emotionally hurt by the music store guys - He does the evil Irene scheme to get financial benefit Now only the first two come before the reveal of Chuck sabotaging Jimmy, but the first two (and the Davis & Main ad he did) were independent of Chuck's influence. It seems, as with everything in their relationship, it's a bit of both. Jimmy, as Chuck has said, "can't help himself." But Chuck is also blind to the effect he has on Jimmy by being so abrasive and distrusting towards him. The fact remains though that Jimmy is ultimately responsible for his own actions. Just because you're pushed into a corner doesn't mean you're within your rights to break the law to fight back. That's the big difference between Chuck & Jimmy. When Jimmy tells Chuck that he'll quit the law if HHM reinstate Kim to her position Chuck says "you want me to commit a felony? Because that's what you'd do, right?!" Chuck is rather elitist and egotistical, but he'd never knowingly break the law as he holds that as a sacred line in justifiable behaviour. Jimmy is kind and charismatic, but he has no respect for that boundary. Chuck sees is as a line in the sand. Jimmy sees it as an obstacle to get round. Gus certainly seems suspicious of Nacho. What do you think made him so? My inkling is that he remembered the pills & bottle going flying when Hector collapsed, but suddenly they're all back neatly in their bottle when the ambulance arrives? Bit of a weird thing to do, going around carefully picking up pills, whilst your boss is having a heart attack... S4 is great. Can't wait to watch it with you guys :D apologies for my essay
