August/September Developer Update

Hey everyone, it's been a busy month for me, i had lost the Patreon post draft due to some issues on my end. Thankfully though i can finally share some news for the project.

Quick Recap

Over the last months, several new icons have been added to the game thanks to the addition of a new artist to the team: BoxOfRandom, also known as Saijou_Box.

He's done an incredible job on all the new icons, and we continue to work together to complete all the Campaign art, including icons, UI elements, loading screen art, and more.

In the same month, we also completed and added the new Defiler model. For this model, we hired an animator to rig and animate the Defiler, doing justice to one of the most iconic units for the Zerg. We plan to continue working with him for future units.

Lastly we've received our new Terran Console model created by our modeler Yohiner, it has been rigged and animated and we're currently working on implementing it for multiplayer usage.

New Art

This month, we have a full schedule across several team members as we work on completing a set of models for Campaign Episodes 0 and 1. This includes starting work on Duke's portrait, new skins, as well as Unit and Building models relevant to the Terran Campaign.

The Missile Turret Model by Altjunior is finally in the game. It was teased some time ago, and we finally were able to implement it.

BoxOfRandom is currently working on concept art that will be used to create a series of skins for the Campaign Loomings episode, as well as making the remainder of the icons for both Multiplayer and Campaign.

Yohiner has also been quite busy as he was assigned a pretty tough series of Models: The Hatchery, Lair and Hive Models, these are pretty early in our production process and we'll continue iterating on these models until its as close as perfect, these are likely to come with the initial Release of the Campaign as they'll likely take a long time to rig and animate.

Lastly, we've added a model that was a lot of fun to work with, as it featured numerous custom materials for the glowy Protoss bits, sculpted and textured by AltJunior.

Over the last month, I spent a lot of time working with the UED: First Light team to bring their Protoss models to life, as well as several other portrait models and the like.

We're still reviewing which models will make the cut for SC: Evo; however, several updates to SC: Evo are planned based on the improvements developed for UED: FL.

Campaign News

Over the coming months, I'll be dedicating a significant portion of my development time to the Campaign to get things moving again.

The plan is to finish the work I started on creating a new set of Core Campaign dependencies. This should help resolve long-standing issues and bugs with our Campaign mods, with the most complex issue being the handling of multiple save files and progression across the different episodes.

Once that is complete, we'll make the necessary changes to update the Demo, re-release it, and continue work on Missions 4 and 5.

Next, after that is the plan to work on the Legacy Campaign, which is as close as possible to a 1:1 recreation, the decision to work on Legacy Campaign first is that the pre-production for the Campaigns can take entire months (or as we've seen now more than a year) to complete pre-production stages before even touching the missions, this would allow us time to let other members of the team work more comfortably on Artwork, Animations, Models, etc.

Legacy Campaign's initial release would include Episodes 0 and 1.

Extension Mods

Some updates are coming to the Extension mods, among them, we're planning to rework the skin selection UI.

There are some things that I'm investigating to see if they'll work, but I'd also like to add notifications to remind players when new skins are released, as well as properly introduce players to the skin selection UI and Discord Buttons.

The AI updates are still in development, as they need to cover both Legacy and Multi versions.

Site Improvements

Our site continues to develop as we're adding a few new features, such as the newly added option to play preview videos. This feature will be used going forward to better show improvements to models, animations, and game mechanics.

There's a lot of work left for us on the site, including new pages, features, and adding the necessary pages to help players with installation and gameplay. In the future, this will also aid in campaign distribution.

Patreon News

First of all, I'd like to thank everyone who has been supporting the project, as I've always said, every little bit counts. Currently, however, I'd like to continue expanding our Patreon to help fund the Mod and allow me to work on several aspects of it with a much more comfortable schedule.

Currently, a significant portion of the funding for the Mod has been covered out of pocket. As happy as I am to see all this progress made, it also means I've neglected portions of the Mod, as I have to choose whether to spend my time working to raise development funds or working on the Mod itself.

This has resulted in delays of certain features, models, and, most importantly, the Campaign, to raise additional funds for the Mod.

To ease the load on myself and allow me to work for longer stretches of time, I will be introducing a few new tiers soon for those who can support us further.
