The Truth and Facts of Writing and Working on an Ongoing Comic
Added 2022-01-09 10:41:11 +0000 UTCGreetings, everyone! As some of you know, or at least acknowledge, is I put a lot of work, time and effort into my manuscripts for RSAHNP and TAOAV.
Not only that but I also work a very heavy physical labor 40+ hour a week job. While trying to manage a social life, which can be difficult at times because bills need to be paid, groceries need to be bought, and household chores must be done. In other words, I bust my ass to make a living in life every single day.
Now, that being said, I and my friend Henrik, who is also my artist and collaborative partner on RSAHNP and TAOAV, do take offense when some people criticize my manuscripts without realizing how much time, effort and work goes into them. Because without my manuscripts, there would be no ongoing RSAHNP comic. They're just as essential as the very art of the comic itself. No manuscripts, no ideas, no art means no RSAHNP. We work our asses off to provide our paying patrons great material and entertainment because we appreciate your support, understanding and patience in the matter.
Now, I'd like to inform all of you the difference between writing a novel and writing an ongoing comic. Because apparently some people think it isn't as hard or harder to write an ongoing comic as it is a novel. Well, they're wrong. So very, very damn wrong. I cannot tell you how many times I've seen a bunch of people belittle, demean, or insult comic book artists and writers who are working on 1 or possibly as many as 6 comic titles. And every time I would have loved nothing more to punch these condescending, ignorant people in the face for what they spouted out of their mouths and typed out on their keyboard or phones.
Comments like "Comic manuscripts are a cheap and easy way to make money rather than making a legitimate story with legitimate effort" or "Writing comics isn't like writing a novel" or "Writing comics isn't as hard or time consuming as writing novels" are from people who know absolutely nothing about about the craft nor are they capable of fathoming all the time, effort or work put into it. And, quite frankly, I think all of us would agree that these types of individuals deserve a hard, brutal kick in the nether regions.
so, I'm here to enlighten all of you on the subject.
1) Being creative whether it be through writing, illustrating, crafting, and creating in general... none of it is easy. Writing an ongoing comic is not easy. Writing manuscripts for an ongoing comic is not easier than writing a novel series. In fact, it is as hard and challenging as writing a novel. Probably more so.
Because with a novel or novel series, unless specified otherwise, you can take your time, but when writing an ongoing comic? You've got deadlines to make because time is of the essence and utmost importance. I've written 15+ chapters of RSAHNP, plus numerous one-shots and minis. I've written 9 chapters of TAOAV. And I've got more coming in the year of 2022. So, needless to say, with Henrik and I finishing up the Chapter 3 of the ongoing RSAHNP comic, I am ahead of any schedule/deadline and intend to keep it that way.
2) What I am writing is not a novel or a book. I am writing manuscripts for an ongoing comic. It is a vastly different for the very reasons of it to be explicit in the way for the artist to understand the situation.
I write manuscripts for the comic because not only is it often the format many, many comic book writers and even movie script writers utilize, but I also do it to partially make it easier for my artist, and to make the progress of the comic more fluid and less solid because the artist has a heck of an artist temper. If he doesn’t have his creative freedom to put in his own input into it, he's not doing it. I am not a tyrant, and I fully desire to see my collaborative partner and friend on the ongoing comic to have total creative freedom.
The format in which I am writing is a compromise to both allow the artist to work, and to allow an insight into the story before the comic is illustrated and made ready for our loyal followers and patrons.
RSAHNP and TAOAV are not novels, nor will they ever be. They're ongoing comics. Different format, different techniques, different approach, but still a TON of work, effort and time are put into them.
Okay, now that we got that out of the way, I just want to say thank you to all of our loyal followers, supporters and patrons. I don't believe all of you know how much we truly, honestly, genuinely appreciate your support. Because without your monetary, emotional, and compassionate support... we wouldn't be doing RSAHNP.
Your monetary support allows us to continue our work. Every contribution, every bit of it helps us in ways you cannot imagine.. I'm hoping this will be the year I will gain enough supporters to reach my ultimate $600-$1,000 monthly goal. Not only will it give me the motivation and inspiration to write more RSAHNP & TAOAV, but it will in turn aid my collaborator in his art. The more followers and support we get, the more RSAHNP flourishes and the more material we will have to present.
It's only possible with your support. No support? No manuscripts. No manuscripts? No art. No art and manuscripts? No more RSAHNP and TAOAV ongoing comics.
The fate of RSAHNP and TAOAV is in your hands and your support.
Take care, best wishes, and we'll see you very soon!

2023-07-06 04:31:29 +0000 UTCI clearly understand the issue here and I really do wish you two the best of luck. I understand what it's like on putting much of your life to the side for a passion project. It's frustrating work, but rewarding once completed. Yet there will always be those to criticize them on a number of ways, all because they only have on point of view and never understand the full picture of the work process. You only have so much help and resources and that's just about it.
