Xerxes makes his lunch, which has the same ingredients as Osric's charcuterie, but is much fancier. Osric remarks positively on his cooking skill but even though Xerxes offers him some of his food, Osric declines. He secretly wishes he will leave him some leftovers though...
It may seem like a frivolous scene but it gives greater meaning to the later scene when Osric lets Xerxes cook for him. He is 'letting him in', metaphorically though food - he doesn't here because he doesn't trust him yet. A simple scene, but gets the point across {:^>
