Lemon D & Dillinja: Bass Production

Part 1 Drums & Breaks - https://youtu.be/S0Azt2MCI3I

The first two parts of this series are now up on YouTube. This is really a fleshing out of all the ideas I started in the Patreon video I uploaded here a week or so ago.

I've also actually just had a moment of inspiration for adding another part to this series. 💡

The title is going to be something like 'Lemon D & Dillinja Part 3 - Abusing Equipment in Unconventional Ways'

From reading various DOA threads, a few interviews and that one video of Dillinja smashing his bass in a mackie mixer from the Talking Headz documentary. https://youtu.be/YrisGeqn70s?t=79

I've had the idea of going though loads of experimental techniques from the 90's from driving mixing desks, driving tube EQs to smashing compressors etc.

In the second part of the video, I thinking of going down a rabbit hole of my own technniques and seeing what I can come up with abusing my pedals, samplers & plugins.

The really key to all this is to get the sounds to break up and distort in unqiue ways. Layers this in parallel over breaks, use as a fill section or over a clean sub bass is a great way of taming some of the crazyness you get as a result.

Adding noise into this process somewhere along the way can also add a lot of that crispyness which makes sounds so satisying.

Fun times ahead! 🚀

Big ups everyone & have a great weekend ✌️😊

Yea dope! I just got a Boss Bx-8 for doing a bit of this. Seems to have similar crunchy distortion to the Mackie's. Just wanted something with a small form factor. I had an Alto mixer I was doing this with before but it blew out after just 2 years so probably not the best idea to smash the levels on newer mixers.

This is a good youtube video on how to get explosive sounds on the mackie. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YMnHiUnJ0Mc You basically daisy chain a series of channels together using the direct outs of a channel into the input of the next channel, you just have to be really careful with the gain staging. Things can get wild pretty quickly.

Zulu SCSI. I can send you more details when am back in the studio on Monday. I installed a new PSU, LED screen, silent fan and Zulu scsi in the emu. It’s amazing as it reads wav so you can just drop files onto a micro SD and plug it in.

Also, what is that floppy disk modification that you have on the EMU?
