This is my second video on the Digitakt 2 which goes over a few cool techniques with fx & pads as well as my breaks workflow.
Here is part 1: My Review - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-fsffWRR0BI
I made quite a tasty Amen for this project which had the full treatment from turntable speed up into Akai pitch back down resampling to eq & compression etc.
I think this is how I will prepare all my breaks in the future! Digi chains is actually a really handy tool as it means you can drop them into any DAW and use grid slicing to have the break perfectly chopped up. https://digichain.brianbar.net/
One part I forgot to mention in the vid, is I will usually program the break in Renoise before destructively rendering out the slices:
I will start by extracting the groove template and quantising that to the grid.
I will then move around the slice markers whilst listening to the whole break rolling round and round to get everything to groove perfectly.
I often find certain shuffles will need to be a little off the transient to keep the break rolling well, but the kicks and snares are pretty dead on.
Finally after that I will render everything out.
The point of all this extra work it to make sure the breaks roll perfectly whilst still being programmed in a quantised fashion. I will go more into this technique in the next Patreon video.
Have a good week everyone.
Cheers ✌️
