So bought Asus 2070 super with 2 hdmi . Plugged it all in with rift in top port and woohoo all goes . Tv looks great and rift too. Now worked out how to get speaker system running so can take rift earphones out and get full in car feel of sound and woofer. Sold 1070ti in no time for good money. So for painles VR and your big screen tv get dual hdmi. Of course cards are ridiculously big and bars from your case may need a dremel so plugs seat properly and forget extra pce add on usb 3.0 or sound as card sits over the other slot.

Very useful. In New Zealand 1080ti sell 850 nz vs 1050 for 3 year guarantee 2070 super. So bought 2070. As you point out why get old for such a small difference. Big thing you and other reviews leave out is connectivity. I have a Rift plus Samsung 4k tv. Originally used a 1060 with 2 hdmi. Worked like a charm. Upgraded to 1070ti. Ran Dirt 2.0 and Occulus titles bar Bullet Train. It refused to send the video from Steam stuff specifically Project Cars 2 and ACorsa to the headset despite a Startech 60 hz adaptor. Put a normal monitor hdmi on Startech and it ran them if started via steam vr. Infuriating.
