Chocolate Pie

Thanks patron Gary Harvey for sending through your pie recipe, we liked it hot with ice-cream (it's cold in Melbourne).  

Just in case anyone else wants to try it, here's Gary's recipe:

"1 1/2 cups sugar 3 T. unsweetened cocoa powder 4 T. unsalted butter, melted 2 large eggs, beaten 3/4 cup evaporated milk 1 t. pure vanilla extract 1/4 t. salt Whipped Cream, for serving Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a medium bowl, whisk the sugar with the cocoa powder, melted butter, beaten eggs, evaporated milk, vanilla, and salt until smooth. Pour into crust and cover edges with aluminum foil and bake for 35-45 minutes..... the crust recipe is as follows: 2.5c flour 1Tablespoon of sugar 1c ( cold cubed real butter) 1/4c ice water If you are using a food processor add 2 cups of flour and sugar pulse it to or three times to get sugar and flour mixed then add butter and pulse again until it makes pea sized pellets then add rest of the flour and water 1Tablespoon at a time until it makes a ball you can also use a stand mixer!!!! "

I’m so glad you liked it although the crust recipe I gave you is much better than the crust recipe I actually had for the original pie I’ve tweaked and changed it over the years this way is the most satisfying!!!!!! The richness of that chocolatyyyy filling and the perfect buttery crust makes it amazing!!!! And I have a question for you Ann did you think it tasted like melted chocolate bars in a pie crust???? I’m so grateful that you even posted it and honored!!! I actually had a married woman from a church I went to at the time call me an abomination because I wouldn’t give the recipe (at that time I was secretive with all recipes now there are only 6 recipes I won’t give out and that’s because they were literally given to me on death bed promises)
