The final push!

Hello, hello friends!

What a busy, hectic, stuffed month this December has been! So much to do, so many people to see, and yet I feel like I blinked and somehow we're at the end. Less than a week until we're in 2025!

Yesterday was all about soaking up the comfort and love, so I only managed to snag one photo:

This is David giving Zelda attention (but clearly not enough, lol) at my mother-in-law's house! I feel so incredibly lucky that my family is able to come together in this way. We had my husband's aunties there, his mom, my parents, my brother and sister-in-law, and both Zelda and Thor!

Bonus shot of Thor basking in holiday cheer at home:

What a good old boy! :)

I'll be spending the next few days with my brother while he's in town, but once he leaves on the 28th, it's time to BUCKLE IN. I'm ready for a rollercoaster whirlwind of a ride through these final few days of 2024!

To help with that, we're going to have a Patreon stream EVERY. SINGLE. DAY:

Saturday, December 28th at 2:45pm CST.
Sunday, December 29th at 9:15am CST.
Monday, December 30th at 6:45pm CST.
Tuesday, December 31st at 2:30pm CST.

(Links to come on Saturday morning!)

After finishing my draft of Under The Influence, I've been all aboard an end-of-year Outline-a-Thon in order to get the remaining words in my 100KQ4! It'll be a push to reach the end (especially since I've already fully outlined 2 cozy mysteries) but I think I can do it!!!

A special shout out to Anja, who's already COMPLETED the challenge! Incredible!!!

Whether you've abandoned the goal, had your own version of the goal, are 50K words behind, or just about to cross the finish line, I can't tell you how fun it's been for me to see our little graph tick up and up and up.

Look at all those colors! Look at us go! That is SO MANY collective words (and time and pages and chapters).

Please vote in the poll down below, let me know how you're feeling as we approach the end of the 100KQ4 Challenge! (You can pick multiple options, in case you're split between a few or prefer a certain phrasing.)

Can't wait to write with y'all soon! :)

Do we have the links yet? I just don’t want to miss anything!

This was one of my favorite challenges I've ever done. I finished on the 19th of December and didn't even write every day, giving myself the breaks I needed, and I found out my process through doing the challenge, so I can't thank you enough for this one, Kate! It has genuinely changed my writing in a way I can't express.

It was so fun to participate 💖 I had a separate goal that I'd set earlier in the year for my Q4 but I wanted to see how much extra I could get during the challenge. It helped me get a higher word count but I still decided to take December off (as per my original plans). I hope you host more challenges like this! ✨

As of today, I'm at 110.8K words and still pushing to the new year since I'm off work and done family commitments. The writing is going so easily, I'm in the flow, and I'm challenging myself with another 100K in Q1 of 2025!

I totally let life take over… Lesson learned! I’m SO down to do a 100k Q1 if y’all are!

I knew I would not make it, but it was fun to participate anyway. I had hoped to write more, but these months were honestly crazy, so I am not beating myself up for it. I am grateful for this community and every single word I wrote, even though they were few. Hopefully, I will join one or two of those streams. Already looking forward to future challenges. Thank you for setting this up and motivating us :-)

Aside from October and December being among the busiest of the year for me, I'm generally just not able to commit to a 3-month project. But I would love to participate in month-long projects or something like check-in/check-out points during longer challenges with smaller goals (i.e. I'm going to join the challenge just for November with the goal of 34.000 words). Not sure how that would work with the tracker though. And of course I can always set my own goals, but the community aspect is a huge draw for me.

I thought I'd accomplished my goal, but now with new notes from my CPs, I have a bunch to re-write. But I want to finish before the new year so I can start the book version, so these streams will be perfect!!!

It was a bust for me because we jumped and bought a fixer-upper house! And we renovated the garage into our barber shop/salon. The time I planned to use for writing went to the house remodel (still a ton left). I'm still happy with the few words I managed and can't wait for the next challenge. 🎉

I absolutely loved this challenge. It came at exactly the right time. Not only did I write close to 70k in my fantasy novel, mapped out more plot and wrote a little fun Halloween story, I also finished a fan fiction and an RPG character story. I learned a lot about my writing pace and how long I can focus on one project. It was so much fun. Thank you for doing all the crazy stuff the patrons come up with. :D

Anja Kuemski

I started late and struggled to get back to writing. As the year closed out, I've been able to increase the number of words each day. My target is 1k words a day to meet a March 31, 2025 day to complete my current wip.

Fall turned out to be way too busy with school this year so I hit a wall in early November, but I'm so ready to get back at it now even though I can't reach the goal!

Ellen

I didn't participate in the challenge because I've already written 400k+ words this year. Yes, this year alone. (This doesn't include discarded words lol). Finished my long project in November. Wrote 15k this month on a follow-up short story, and still one more chapter to go for that. So... I've been taking a bit of a break for this part of the year lol... but good luck to the rest of you! You can do it!

I’ve realized that with family obligations and having a little one in daycare (aka the germ farm) that my writing productivity shuts down around mid-November and doesn’t really pick up again until February or March. But I’d love to try 100kQ4 again next year just doing fun little one shots, brainstorming, or something unstructured like that.

Voted for pre-existing options, but wanted to say that I loved this challenge (even though it was personally a bust, which I expected due to my work load). But I’m excited for the upcoming livestreams (I’ll try to make as many as possible, but I’ll be with family and it may be hard).

I have started looking into Trackbear in order to track my words in 2025. My goal lis to write every day even if it is 10 words. I have been tracking in my calendar and I probably would still go it but I like the fancy graphs! Now I just have to learn how I use the program.

I managed to get sick over the holidays (as I do most years, dutiful employee that I am), so everything has been very slow and quiet, which I honestly needed. I didn't participate in the challenge because I knew work and life would be busy and I didn't want to pile more stuff onto my already crowded to do list. Nevertheless, I have written about 70k of fiction now and expect to add another 5k or so before the end of the year, which is way more than I thought I'd be able to write, so that's definitely a win!

Pericula Ludus

OH! And please let me know how your holidays were/are going and your favorite part of your celebration. :)
