Most people can't believe this, but this is actually my favorite Thor film. I never really got into Thor 1. It wasn't bad but not one I was really interested in seeing again. I saw Dark World when it was in theaters and I thought "wow, this movie was awesome." I actually enjoyed the romance a bit more (still don't care about them overall though), both Hemsworth and Portman did have chemistry. The Warriors three were a lot better, Loki was carrying over his charm from Avengers, the mother had a ton of character in the little amount of screentime they gave her, AND probably my biggest praise of the film... Thor is actually acting like a king. This was the film where I felt he was the most mature. He actually showed real leadership and prioritized his royal responsibilities. When his father is blinded by grief and rage over losing his queen, Thor actually puts his emotions aside, takes charge, and formulates a plan that services the good of the kingdom (saving his gf along the way). It didn't go all the way with the comedy but the comedy was there and I think it worked fine. Loki was entertaining as always and even though he had to fake his death AGAIN, him and Thor did have a lot of really good scenes together. Here are the criticisms I agree with: -AWFUL villains. The dark elves were probably the most forgettable MCU antagonists ever and weren't all that intimidating. -I wasn't as annoyed with the scientist side characters as everyone else, but they were definitely pointless and a distraction. -Jane's subplot did play a role in the main plot as well as it was supposed to but I still think she got a bit too much focus. -A perfectly good and emotional Loki death that was all for naugh. But aside from all that, I really like this movie and it's definitely my favorite one that I took the most seriously. I think it balanced the core of Thor's character and SOME comedy perfectly without going too ridiculous or playing him off for a laugh. I definitely felt the commitment from Hemsworth in this role. I still enjoy 3 but Dark World is where I felt the most for the characters (aside from IW).
