Attachment. It’s easier to hurt people if you don’t care about them. I don’t think Rebecca is a horrible person at all. I think she’s a flawed character who’s clearly hurt from her divorce/husband cheating that she’s lashing out. But as the theme of the show goes, what happens when she gets closer to Ted and he wins her over with his positivity? What happens when she gets to know Keeley hmm… It becomes harder to hurt others if you get close enough to them that you can express empathy.
