Going forward for 2018
Added 2018-01-31 21:12:57 +0000 UTCWe've currently outgrown the current server by about 7TB. The current server has a 24TB raw volume that's really only usable to about 18TB. There's about 3-4TB of content spread across another series of servers. In short: We need a new space.
What's ahead: New server.
The planned server would cost around $3,300 to $3,500 depending on time built and specs.
The current system we're looking at is the following.
CPU: Intel C2750 8 Core Atom.
RAM: 64GB
HDD(s): 10 x HGST 8TB disks.
This unit would be housed in a 1U storage server. Initial cost estimate per month of hosting for this additional server is approximately $70 bringing the total monthly cost of running the archive to $110 a month. This is including an additional set of IP's and another 100mb/s un-metered connection.
We'll have two raw volumes of 40TB allowing for both redundancy and on-site backup. We'll have (after the ZFS file system overhead) approximately 32TB of storage.
