Spirit Halloween recently released a new Deluxe Ghost Trap.I recently posted a full impromptu vide review of my impressions here. In summary, I think this offering a mixed bag for the price: It certainly has and improved look with better weathering and labels. It is much lighter than the Haslab trap making it more ideal for costuming. The mist effect is decent. My biggest gripes are around the electronic experience. The sounds are not accurate and are the same ones included in the basic Spirit trap with some proton pack sounds. But the biggest oversight is that while the pedal will open the trap, it will not close the trap (the trap animation must complete and it closes automatically. (this drives me nuts...I am going to be investigating fixes for this in the near future.)
One easy aesthetic adjustment I wanted to make is the trap opening portal. Out of the box, you get a translucent green plastic sheet with a very obvious hole in the center. I decide to design a trap opening grate which I could insert into the trap. It definitely adds more depth and interest for the trap animation and misting.
Cut out the thing green plastic sheet - you can use a knife to cut/pry it out. It's flimsy and flexible to pry out without needing to disassemble the trap.
Print the included Trap "Opening Frame" and "Opening Grate". The grate can attached to the frame using 4 small 2mm screws in the corners.
Insert it into the trap opening - note that the hole near the center of the grate should align with the mister (it is not perfectly centered). The insert should fit snugly - my is 'friction fitted' for easy removal but you may opt to glue it in.
