There were a number of Kenner Ghostbusters toys planned for release that never quite made it to toy shelves. Among these unreleased concepts would have been a new playset called Egon's Lab which served as a scientific laboratory for studying ghosts. The playset prototype shows a gray base, various tentacle-attached tools, a diagnostic station, and a hammer for slamming ghosts.
This 3D printable playset is a 're-visited' version that I designed to fit as an expansion to the Firehouse playset. I based the design on the limited photos of the prototype and added my own take on some of the play features. In my version...
The blue 'diagnostic' equipment can dump slime onto the ghost or hero below. (Also included is a tray that can eject mini-ghosts since slime is messy!)
The red 'hammer' is designed as more of a trap/cage that can hold a mini-ghost.
For the flexible tentacle-like tools, I opted to use some green silicone tube for flexibility.
The surface detailing and aesthetics are also customized to fit with the look and feel of my Firehouse playset and containment unit design.
Here are some simple diagrams to help guide your assembly - it is pretty straightforward!
First start with some floor modules that will connect you to the containment unit and firehouse.
Next, print the base for Egon's lab... the base is a single piece. Use tree branch supports and bridging to save on material! I printed mine out of grey.
For the hammer 'trap' print the base, hammer, and axle components. Glue the assembly to the main base.
Print the diagnostic station, slime tray, and access lid.
Complete the playset with the tentacle tool attachments.
Finally - attach Egon's lab in with the Firehouse playset! There are number of other vintage accessories you can print to complete the look - including proton pack charging station, testing station, and a place to story various roof accessories for the ectomobile.
