Choosing Engine for future Visual Novel
Added 2025-02-03 23:48:48 +0000 UTCHello, my dear subscribers.
This survey will be public, as I need the broadest possible opinion on this issue.
As I have already announced before, I plan to create a visual novel Game of Bimbos based on the famous fandom.
And I plan to start active development in February.
Of course, as an author, I wanted to approach the creation of my first game responsibly, and therefore I played a large number of novels myself in order to gain some experience for myself, identify some successful and unsuccessful solutions from their authors and understand how I can make my future game better.
And as an author, I see for myself the possibility of creating a game on two different engines, which in themselves will convey different experiences from the game itself, but at the same time have different technological features.
Therefore, now I will open this topic for you, and based on your choice and/or comments, I will try to make a final decision on the choice of an engine for my future novel.
The first engine: Ren'py
The basic engine for creating a visual novel. It involves the creation of a novel in which the main gameplay will develop in dialogues, from scene to scene through dialogues and choices in them you will get non-linear access to various scenes. I'm not going to make a kinetic novel, I'm interested in giving the player the freedom of choice, at least in the matter of fetishes that you have to reveal in the game. At the same time, the space itself in the game will be linear, since I know that it is possible to implement certain transitions by location, etc. It's based on this engine, but I don't think I'll play much with it at an early stage of development. The specific advantage of the engine is that it will allow you to run the novel on both a PC and a Smartphone, but frankly, I don't really understand how much the function of the game on a smartphone can be in demand.
The second engine: RPGMaker
It's another popular engine in this environment, which allows you to create more than just dialogues, decisions, and so on. but there are also locations where you can move your character physically, which will allow me, as the author, to make the game even more non-linear by adding certain scenes to the game map of the location itself, and this engine also has a certain combat system similar to JRPG. I'm not going to include any kind of grind or serious action game in the game, at least at an early stage, but at the same time, certain scenes could also unfold through one kind of battle or another.
In terms of functionality in the field of dialogues, selections and visualization of scenes, it is in no way inferior to Ren'py.
The special feature of RPGMaker is that the map itself and the characters on it will be pixelated, you can just Google the games on this engine to understand how it might look, but in the dialogues and scenes they will have high-quality portraits and visualization, the same as they would have on Renpy.
A possible disadvantage of RPGMaker may be that such a game cannot be run on a Smartphone without an emulator.

So what will it be? Maybe GoT, WoW, The Witcher or something else like Tomb Raider? 🤔

2025-03-06 00:36:48 +0000 UTCThanks for your opinion, never planned to play with Daz3D at all. Sandbox it's something that I don't like either. Minigames... Well, if I'll make some they will be plot-oriented, and devinitely not in the first versions of the novel.

2025-02-11 18:06:10 +0000 UTCThanks, BBC is one of the main fetishes in my works, but not the only one, I've made a votepoll some time ago to check out kinks that my supporters would prefer to see in ny works, and BBC was one of the tops, so no surprising it's will be one of top themes. But BWC will also be appearing in my works, and you'll see it in Elven Bimbo Fashion full set soon ;)
