I'm really glad you liked it. It has been one of my favorite films ever since I saw it. Bong Joon-ho, who directed this film, went on to win the Oscars for Best Director, Best Picture, and Best Original Screenplay for his film, Parasite, which became the first film to win Best Picture that wasn't in English. The Host and Okja are also notable films of his I'd recommend. I think the ending is meant to evoke some hope, as the presence of the bear means life does exist. The father thought they could survive. Here's what he told Curtis at the end, translated to English: "What if we could survive outside? Remember the Yekaterina Bridge? When your guys were getting chopped up? There's something I look at every New Year. A crashed airplane under the snow. All I saw ten years ago was just the tail. Now the body and wings are peeking out. Less ice and snow means... it's melting." But I agree with you, I wouldn't be too hopeful if I was in their shoes, but you never know. You're right about there being a TV series based on the film and the French graphic novel it was based on. I've heard good things about it, but I haven't seen any of it yet. Thanks for watching!
