A stand-alone illustration for FaLLEN Vol. 1: REBIRTH. The art gallery will have a few illustrations that are unique to the book in some way.
This is a remake of the Chapter 4 title page from the original black and white version. It didn't take me too long to do but we had a lot of heavy thunderstorms that caused me to have to step away from the computer several times this week. I'm so tired of the blackouts we've been dealing with and I don't want to risk something happening to anything for this book, so I just unplug and step away.

The original! I really enjoyed working on this image, which I did completely through traditional mediums. But over the years I wish I'd drawn her feet and I wish I'd done her face a little differently. I think the style at the time was to draw faces a little like this...
Lineart! I actually made quite an effort to redo some of the inking to look similar to when I inked traditionally with dip pens. I changed her face and gave her feet!
Flat colors! Though if I am being honest, I went ahead and did some gradations for the background. I skipped some steps since this is an illustration and not a comic page.
Shadows! I am a little worried I made the barn roof too dark. A print I made of her recently had shadows on her whole face and it was very dark, so I decided not to do super accurate shadows for her. Not that I usually do anyway. I usually choose to make my characters stand out and pop more by using less shadows on them unless I want a specific mood.
Gradations and highlights! Oh, actually, I apparently didn't use gradients on her hair in this. I must have fixed that in the next step.
The finished illustration. Added patterns and line effects, blush, etc. I actually put the hospital gown pattern on a separate layer so I could remove it from the strings and collar of her gown. I normally don't bother in the comic. I tried warping the pattern to fit the flow of the fabric but it didn't really change too much.
