Beastman of Torvair

So seeing how my patreon was so barren for months on end, I came to a realization of what was the point of creating a patreon? Sure it was to get funds to help with costs for the project but also as a way to connect to fans out there. My discord though has taken about half that load for many of you who might realize, I'm far more active there in answering questions and putting up teasers, and I have left this space empty for so long.

SOoooooOooooO...

I gave a bit more thought into how to properly use this platform in the spare time that it isn't used in uploading new builds, explaining delays, or previewing new content. So as a commitment to bringing you guys even a little bit of content, I'm going to try to make an effort to create at a minimum, two posts a month. This can range from anything from in game lore, to more polls, to maybe just showing off something that I had been working on, more so than I would do in my discord.

Now you likely read the title and thought, so what does any of what you said have to do with the title. Well, let me tell ya! Cause this is one of those things that I was talking about with offering you all a bit of known lore (public in the eyes of those who have lived in Torvair) of the world of Kingsguard.

As you already know, the land of Torvair is divided up into 3 great nations, you have:

Yasan - The home nation that the main character is from and who he is soon to be king too as soon as he succeeds his father;
Braum - A nation also built upon a monarchy;
Farhoron - The odd nation out, filled with rogues, ruffians, bandits and is an overall inhospitable barbaric land.

And the two races that fill up the boarders of this world are humans and beastman. Humans are pretty self explanatory. I'm sure most of you have come into contact with a human at least once, maybe even twice in your life. (I have, and I can say that they are pretty scary.) But the one race that most people don't seem to understand or even know much about at all, even with themselves are the Beastman. While humans come in all different, shapes, and sizes, and colors, Beastman do as well. From birth they are more akin to a furry baby with animalistic traits (Horns, long snouts, claws, whiskers, etc...) that end up becoming more pronounced as they grow up, and they grow up at quite a faster rate than humans do, though they seem to have nearly the same, if not longer, life expectancy. You can find Beastman lions, tigers, bears, wolves, foxes, rhinos, heck there are even those of avian varieties such as owls and eagles. (Probably wondering if they can fly aren't you? Can't tell you that yet though, guess you’ll have to keep playing to find out =) )
Now the thing about Beastman is that they are essentially better humans for the most part. A bull beastman for instance could likely lift a 100lb weight no problem at the age of 12 without much excercise, so you could begin to imagine what an adult beastman could do. That and even one at the age of twelve might even be almost as tall as an average human. This of course is case by case, some might grow up slower than others or might not be as strong but the general consensus is that when it comes to physical attributes, beastmen have humans beat.

For the most part though, there isn't too much else of a difference between humans and beastmen. Both are cunning, both are resourceful, both are social beings that enjoy to surround themselves with others that share common likes and interests. If you stripped down the differences in appearances or even tried to play twenty questions with a beastman and a human to determine which was which, you would likely have to guess.

Now one thing about beastman is that they tend to be more aggressive than humans. Maybe it’s some kind of animal blood coursing through their veins but they can tend to get a bit more rowdy that most. Sure humans can get livid too but beastmen have a far more likely tendency to become, for lack of a better word, more feral. They snarl, bark, howl, hiss, raise their fur at signs of danger or if they are about to strike. If you could imagine how an animal would react to certain scenarios in which they may be fearful of their life you could likely find a beastman exhibiting the same behaviors. They are very defensive and offensive beings and as such, you should know the risks before deciding to piss off a beastman too much. Remember that bull child you were just about to start teasing? Don’t go crying to your mommy when you get thrown half way down the street and go crashing into the nearest fish stall only to wake up with a bruised face and ego that you got beat by a kid in less than a second.

All in all, beastman are one of the biggest mysteries of Torvair. They have been here for as long as humans have yet there isn’t anything know about them. Were they humans changed through dark magic ages ago to the forms you see today? Were animals given human like qualities and now they live among st humans? Perhaps it was humans who had lost these animalisitic traits and have become what they are now? All that we can say for sure is that they are every bit as important as humans in this world and are here to stay.
