I like that you can see how the images are created piece by piece.

thanks Berthulf, I love hearing that these are useful and/or entertaining for you guys to check out. and absolutely with the AI thing. I fear where this is going to go unregulated!! was tragicomic to hear how rich hollywood celebrities have managed to get themselves some legal protections against being replaced with AI generated actors; clearly smalltime indie illustrators won't have that same kind of leverage with the government. oh well maybe we can hope for some kind of legal trickle-down effect where protections put in place for them will eventually apply to illustrators too.

yes!! I totally agree - that lighting seemed too fake. to be honest even in the final version the lighting on Seamus is a little bit inconsistent all over, but I think it's close enough that it doesn't totally jump out at you.

Celery Man

wow yeah that is a very similar setting and scene!!!

I love these process breakdowns, they're so informative and really helpful to budding artists, and less budlike ones; plus a great insight to your work and thought process. I think you're on the money with the thoughts on AI, and agree it can be very helpful for visualising concepts, and tools like upscaling are incredibly powerful, but lawmakers need to get on with regulating how, and with what, neural networks can be taught.

Captivating as always to see your process!!! :) I noticed your explanation for the change in lighting on Seamus' face (last 2 images). Imho, the 1st lighting (rejected one) seems almost "artificial" in that it doesn't seem to organically fit in the scene; it almost looks as if someone had a small penlight on Seamus' face -- which would only work if they were being discovered by someone. In any case, I can't wait for you to finally find a print-on-demand provider that will allow you to sell these masterpieces as prints!!!! (hint hint hint ;) )

Found this gif, thought you might enjoy the similarities to your masterpiece although from a totally different source! J PS I could see Seamus getting into this lol. ;) https://64.media.tumblr.com/a0a8710db79b4bb73290d2d27cb6c1c8/tumblr_o6cs4fr2NL1uj9itwo1_540.gifv

Thank you for sharing details and thoughts.. I always wondered about the interplay of "mastermind" and "lover" in the head [or shall I say heads ;) ] of artist.. you obviously love your characters.. now reading about the construction and algorithms involved makes it complex, alive, and even more intense. I remember new depth revealed after reading simple comments that Sadao Hasegawa made for his paintings of nude men.. he would say that in real life he prefers simple men to those incredible images.. he would say how much attention he places in drawing body hair.. Knowing what you search for with your eyes brings it all to higher level. The thought on use of AI is also quite relevant and new.. as everything else - it becomes 'good or evil' 'fake or real' depending on who contacts and uses it. My opinion - with your already actualized vision and creativity - it only can amplify and benefit - not substitute and not mislead. Thank you again for so openly talking about your thought process and search. Makes your art even more lovable!
