In Australia, Improved Production Touring Car racing, initially defined by Group C regulations, was a key part of the Australian Touring Car Championship (ATCC) from 1965 to 1972. These regulations replaced the earlier Appendix J rules and were used for the ATCC from 1965 to 1972, initially as a single race and later as a multi-round series. The leading cars of this era included Ford Mustangs, Chevrolet Novas, and various Holden Monaros. In 1973, a new Group C touring car formula replaced the Improved Production regulations for the ATCC.
