Season 1 of The Morning Show is a gut punch. Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Hannah is incredible. You don’t even realize she’s the heart of the season at first. You get bits of her pain, but it’s not until episode 8 that it all hits you — no prep, just a brutal reveal. The weight of it all slams you, and you realize how much she’s been holding in.
Bradley is chaos. She comes in with this 'I’m here to tell the truth' vibe, but she’s all over the place — desperate for validation and kind of reckless. Reese Witherspoon gives her some real edge. She’s not playing the good girl; she’s ambitious, flawed, and interesting.
Alex — watching her play along with the boys' club, thinking it’s the only way to stay on top, and then realizing how deep she’s gotten into it? It’s not that she loses, but when she faces the truth of her role in all of it, it breaks her. Jennifer Aniston is great here. She finally gets something more serious to work with, and she kills it.
Mitch is written so well. Steve Carell’s charm pulls you in at first, and then you start to see how delusional he is. He’s so caught up in his own story, he’s blind to the pain he’s caused.
But Billy Crudup as Cory? He is the show. Seriously, I can’t get enough of him. Every scene he’s in, he’s electric. There’s this wild, unpredictable energy he brings that makes you not want to look away. He’s playing the game with everyone, but there’s so much more to him — you can tell he’s not just out for power, there’s a depth to him that makes you wanna root for him. He steals every scene, and it’s not just because of how magnetic he is. He’s smart, charming, and even kind of vulnerable in his own way. He’s one of those characters who feels like he’s constantly one step ahead, but you still can’t quite figure him out. I need more Cory.
Chip’s a standout too. He’s got Alex’s back, not just because of loyalty, but because he genuinely cares. He’s willing to take a hit for her, even when he knows it’ll cost him.
Thanks you Jessie for as always so brilliant and thoughtful reactions to S1
